    Mental Illness Awareness Week is from October 2 – 8, 2022. During Mental Illness Awareness Week, we recognize that many different types of mental illness affect people differently. Within each mental illness, people may have very different symptoms and challenges. In addition, symptoms of mental illness are just one piece. Services, support from loved ones, and community involvement all play a role in how people experience and cope with mental illness.   • Ask Your Chief Medical Director: Pride Month

    In celebration of Pride Month, Dr. Chugh joined Dr. Hekman and Dr. Ng. Dr. Hekman, MD FACP, is a practicing internal medicine specialist and founding physician of the Center for LGBTQ+ Care at the Lakewood Family Health Center. He serves as a Regional Medical Director for Regional Operations and Cleveland Clinic’s Community Health and Partnerships. Dr. Ng, MD, MPH, FAAP, FACP (he/they) is an internal medicine and pediatrics trained physician and has been working in LGBTQ+ health for 15 years. They serve as the Director for the Center for LGBTQ+ Care and the Transgender Surgery & Medicine Program at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Chugh, Dr. Hekman and Dr. Ng looked at myths and misconceptions toward the 2SLGBTQ+ community, challenges related to stigmatization, and discuss how sex, gender and sexuality intersects to impact both mental and physical health.

    In celebration of Black History Month, Dr. Chugh joined by Dr. Titilayo Olupona, Executive Health Physician at Cleveland Clinic Canada, as they discuss the importance of Black health and wellness, and some of the barriers that Black people face in accessing health care. Born in Nigeria and fluent in Yoruba, Dr. Olupona has lived in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. Inspired by her father, who is an OB/GYN, Dr. Olupona knew she wanted to go into the field of medicine at an early age and is dedicated to helping her patients live healthier lives.

Nadia has been working as a physician for over twenty years, first as a family physician and later as a psychiatrist. She currently specializes in occupational mental health and works at the Center for Addiction and Mental Health. Dr. Chugh and Dr. Aleem educated and inspired all employees on ways to break down barriers, dispel stigma and support yourself and others through education, empathy, and practical tips.
